The Chief Executive Officer of Pilates Studio Accra, Cida Ferreira, has urged basic school students to take personal exercise seriously, as it refreshes their minds and sets them up for academic success.

In a short ceremony to donate sanitary pads to parents and students of Nangodi Junior High School in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, the U.S. philanthropist recommended Pilates for those experiencing body aches.

She said, “I’m the owner of Pilates Studio Accra, based in Labone, Accra. Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise. It trains your mind, is good for your mental health, and gives you a full-body workout. It’s a whole connection of the mind working your body and the smaller muscles. I encourage anybody feeling body aches to try and look for a local place where you can stretch or find someone knowledgeable in fitness, health, and wellness to help you become more mobile.”

Ms. Ferreira also emphasized the importance of regular exercise for children, saying, “In most schools, children exercise, and why do they do it? It’s because it gives them a break from the classroom setting. It also refreshes their minds and bodies. When you exercise, the body releases endorphins, and endorphins make you happy. It’s that natural happiness drug within the body that makes you feel great, which can then motivate you to learn better. It’s better for your mental health.”

The Pilates for Pads initiative aims to raise awareness and funds to support girls in marginalized areas like Bolgatanga, Ghana. The mission is to provide young girls with menstrual products, ensuring they stay in school, feel confident, and embrace their futures with dignity.

Ms. Ferreira explained the motivation behind Pilates Studio’s decision to launch Pilates for Pads, saying, “This cause is deeply personal to me. Having witnessed the challenges these girls face, I know the transformative power of support. Together, we can break the cycle of period poverty. Every contribution, every voice raised, and every shared story matters. With your help, we can ensure that no girl ever has to choose between her health and her education.”
