The Bolga East District Assembly has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the long-abandoned Bolga-Bawku road construction project with the inauguration of the District Road Investment Program (DRIP) machines.

This initiative aims to reshape the road, strengthening connectivity and promoting economic growth in the district. Speaking to the media, the District Chief Executive, Albert Agana Akugre, explained that despite the importance of the DRIP project to the district, financial constraints for fueling the machines were the reason for the delayed inauguration.

“Today’s gathering is to introduce our DRIP equipment, which will be used on our roads, small dams, and bridges in the Bolga East District. We have an urgent project to start with, so from here, we are heading to the Kulaa Bridge to ensure that the road is properly shaped, as there have been many accidents on that stretch recently,” Mr. Akugre said.

Mr. Akugre noted that, due to the absence of the contractor responsible for the Bolga–Bawku road—especially along the Kulaa Bridge stretch—the assembly decided to step in and make the road passable, with support from the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Matthew Silas Amoah.

According to the DCE, Mr. Amoah, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, covered the full cost of fueling all the machines and trucks needed to make the Kulaa stretch of the Bolga–Bawku road motorable until the assembly receives the DRIP funds for fuel.

“The Parliamentary Candidate provided the fuel to address the emergencies occurring in our district, particularly at Kulaa. He reached out to me; I didn’t even approach him. He said he heard about the situation and wanted to support us. There have been many accidents at the bridge, with people breaking legs daily. I hardly sleep at night because of this. I even sat down with my Director to discuss how we could fuel the machines, and it was going to cost over GHS 20,000.00. So, when he offered to help, how could we refuse?” he asked.

The DCE further stated that the District Assembly is working to address the infrastructure challenges related to the DRIP machines after reshaping the Kulaa stretch of the Bolga–Bawku road.
