Political analyst Ayam Fidelis Atura has expressed support for President John Mahama’s recent ministerial appointments and restructuring of ministries, aligning with promises made during his campaign, particularly those aimed at delivering results within the first 120 days of his administration. “I think it is only right that the president starts to work,” he said.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Atura also commented on the decision to relieve certain Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) of their duties. He noted that it is essential for the current government to work with individuals who align with its agenda. He argued that retaining officials in key positions who do not share the ruling party’s objectives would be counterproductive.
Additionally, Mr. Atura praised the president’s call for an investigation into the tragic loss of lives during the 2020 elections, describing it as a necessary step forward after the previous administration failed to take significant action on the matter.
“On the president’s call for an investigation into the people who lost their lives in the 2020 elections, I think it is a step in the right direction. I was actually disappointed when the former president didn’t take sufficient steps to restore Ghanaians’ confidence by addressing the loss of lives and ensuring accountability,” he stated.
While acknowledging the importance of accountability, Mr. Atura cautioned that the investigation should not be used as a political tool to unfairly blame the previous government or target individuals. Instead, he emphasized that the process should focus on uncovering the truth and creating measures to prevent similar incidents in future elections.
“I only hope this isn’t an attempt to blame the previous government or to witch-hunt individuals. It should be an effort to shed light on what truly happened and to determine how we can avoid such occurrences in the future,” he concluded.
