The Upper East Regional Communication Bureau for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has addressed recent media reports that the party says misrepresented events at the welcome durbar held in Pwalugu on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in honor of the newly sworn-in Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga.
The Bureau emphasized that the portrayal of a cultural practice as an act of extravagance is inaccurate and misleading.
The durbar was an important cultural event, bringing together individuals from different political, ethnic, and community backgrounds in a spirit of unity. The celebration featured a grand procession from Pwalugu to Bolgatanga township, accompanied by traditional drumming, singing, and dancing, which highlighted the region’s rich heritage.
In a statement signed by the Upper East Regional Communications Officer, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, he stated that some media outlets have misinterpreted a customary practice as an ostentatious display by the Minister.
