Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed confidence in the new regional minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, and commended him for his commitment to an open-door policy. He stated that, based on years of collaboration with the minister, he is certain of his accessibility and transparency.

“At least I can vouch for this current regional minister, having worked with him for so many years.”

Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu highlighted that the regional minister is known for his willingness to engage, whether through phone calls or in-person meetings. He assured the public that the minister would not hide behind excuses when people seek to meet him.

However, he acknowledged that, like any senior official, Mr. Akamugri may have prior commitments that could require people to wait for meetings. Despite this, Mr. Salifu expressed confidence that the minister’s promise to maintain an open-door approach would be honored.

“Of course, if he has serious business to attend to, you will have to wait, just like with any other senior officer. Apart from that, I trust him when he says he’ll run an open-door policy.”

Additionally, he addressed Mr. Akamugri’s recent comments about not tolerating backbiting within the administration. Mr. Salifu explained that this stance is not unusual in human institutions, pointing out that some of the minister’s predecessors had faced challenges with internal conflicts. He suggested that the minister’s decision to address this issue head-on was likely influenced by past experiences and expressed hope that, if successfully implemented, it could create a more harmonious working environment.

“It’s just like any other human institution. We have seen it in the past, and some of his predecessors have suffered from it. So I believe that, guided by what happened in the past, he was compelled to make such a statement.”

“This issue of backbiting and his stance on not tolerating it—I think if he’s able to implement it, it will help us,” he added.
